Todra Gorge
Todra Gorge is a narrow limestone canyon at the end of a palm-filled valley near Tinghir. Its high rock walls make it one of the most striking stops between the Dades Valley and Merzouga.

What to Expect in Todra Gorge
The road follows the Todra oasis north from Tinghir, passing gardens, villages and abandoned earth-built houses before the valley closes into the gorge. At its narrowest point, the paved road runs beside the river between sheer canyon walls.
Most desert tours stop for an easy walk through the canyon before continuing east towards Erfoud and Merzouga. Travellers with more time can stay nearby for longer walks into the valley or guided hikes above the gorge.

- North of Tinghir and between the Dades Valley and Merzouga on the usual Marrakech–Sahara route.
- Time to allow
- A short stop takes about an hour; allow longer if you want to walk beyond the main canyon.
- What to bring
- Comfortable shoes and a light layer, as the shaded gorge can feel cooler than the surrounding valley.
- Best time of day
- Morning is generally quieter and gives softer light along the oasis on the approach.
