4-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech overview

This four-day tour will be tailored to your preferences, beginning in Fes, traversing Merzouga, and concluding in Marrakech. The tour will commence by exploring the charming town of Ifrane, known as the little Switzerland of Morocco. Here, we will stop to admire the statue of the Atlas lion. Afterward, we will journey through the Cedar Forest, where we will pause to encounter the Barbary Macaque monkeys, feed them, and capture some photographs.

We will then cross the Atlas Mountains to reach the Errachidia Dam, which is the source of water for the desert. From there, we will stop to admire the panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. Along the way, we will also visit various cities and villages such as Erfoud, where the festival of dates and mineral fossils can be found.

In the afternoon of the first day, we will reach the highlight of our tour, the Merzouga Sahara Desert, which is around a seven-hour drive from Fes. On the second day, you will embark on a full-day excursion around Merzouga, during which you will visit nomads, the Gnaoua people, the Srij Lake, and the Hassi Labied Oasis. Finally, you will ride camels to Erg Chebbi dunes and spend the night in Berber tents (Bivouac).

On the third day, you will explore the Grand Canyons of Todgha, starting with some small activities such as wearing Berber clothes and admiring some scenic viewpoints.

The fourth day will involve visiting the Dades gorges and the rose flower valley in Kalaat Mgouna. Afterward, we will explore the Atlas studio in Ouarzazate before embarking on a hike to Ait Benhaddou Kasbah. Finally, the tour will continue through the Tichka Pass in the Atlas Mountains before concluding in Marrakech.

The itinerary of the 4 days tour from Fes to Marrakech.

Day 1: Fes to Merzouga.

The tour usually starts in the morning from Fes, where visitors will embark on a scenic drive through the Atlas Mountains towards the desert. Along the way, they can stop at several historical sites, such as the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis or the medieval city of Moulay Idriss.

The drive continues through scenic valleys, Berber villages, and stunning landscapes before arriving in the desert town of Merzouga, located on the edge of the Sahara.

Day 2: Merzouga desert tour.

On the second day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the local area around Merzouga. One of the highlights of the tour is a camel ride into the desert to experience the vast sand dunes and watch the sunset over the desert. Other activities may include a visit to a nomadic Berber village to learn about their traditions and way of life, or a visit to the Gnawa people, known for their unique music and dance performances.

Day 3: Merzouga to Ouarzazate.

The third day of the tour takes visitors on a scenic drive through the Draa Valley, which is known for its lush palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and picturesque landscapes. Along the way, visitors may visit the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous backdrop for many Hollywood films.

The day ends in Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the Sahara and the Hollywood of Morocco due to its many film studios and scenic locations.

Day 4: Ouarzazate to Marrakech.

On the final day of the tour, visitors will drive to Marrakech, passing through the High Atlas Mountains and stopping at several scenic viewpoints along the way. The tour may also include a visit to the Kasbah of Telouet, an impressive fortress located in the middle of the mountains.

The tour concludes in Marrakech, one of Morocco’s most famous and vibrant cities, where visitors can explore the city’s colorful souks, historic palaces, and lively street performances.
